I returned to Iran in December 2017 to work on the We Need Trees Association in Iran.
I began by doing 8 session workshops in various schools while other facilitators delivered
our 8 sessions curriculum to students, also in various schools.
After we finished with our 8 sessions of dialogue and workshop with the students, the Association organized a tree planting event where all the students we had worked with were invited to join and for each to plant a tree.
I asked the municipality to help us by providing a piece of land, a piece of land the
municipality had already planned to plant trees, and to support us by providing us with saplings.
Even with the granting of the parcel of land for us to plant 750 saplings, we needed nearly 5000 Euros for the project. There were 750 students involved and we wanted to
provide each with a T-shirt, breakfast, and a snack, drinking water, and transportation.
After the tree planting event, we wanted to organize live music as entertainment. We wanted to ensure that the tree planting event was fun and joyful, made for a memorable experience, to create for a strong, positive impact.
A law company, Bayan E Emrooz, sponsored our project and provided us with the funds we needed.
Seven schools were involved in this project. On the day we planted those trees, 34 volunteers joined us and helped lend a hand. Students from Mofid School created a recycling station for the garbage, while a group of clowns joined us to entertain the children.
We distributed T-shirts and offered breakfast and distributed snacks in paper bags. The food was eaten while the students travelled by bus from their schools to the area where the planting took place.
The students arrived at 9:00. The volunteers guided them to the area where they could grab a sapling and then helped them find a hole where they could plant their tree, using
their bare hands.
We finished our program at about 13:00, having planted 750 saplings, at which time the
students returned to their respective schools.
I have been cycling around the world in support of environment stewardship. I started my journey on Dec 2006 and have been visiting schools to talk and inspire kids to take care of nature. Cycling 83 000 km in over 53 countries and planting 1000s of trees with kids is just an amazing memory from my last 15 years of life. Still a long way a head of this lifetime journey.
